About the Author

Russell “Rooster” Valentini

Russell Valentini, or Rooster, as he is fondly called, has a special gift of expressing his experiences and emotions through poetry. Since the signing of the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Act in 1987, he has been writing his unique verses describing the lives of students experiencing homelessness and their families. Just as a picture is worth a thousand words, the same can be said of Rooster’s many poems. His poems have encouraged people to feel compassion for those in need and without a home. He has used his pen as a tool against the barriers that these children and their families face every day.
